What’s New for the 2020 Jeep Compass?

The 2020 Jeep Compass is part of the generation that began with a complete redesign in 2017, and Jeep has added some exciting features to the Compass since then. For 2020, Jeep has made smart safety features such as blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, rain-sensing wipers, and more available on the lowest Sport trim level. Additionally, Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ now come standard on the Compass, so every drive can be filled with your favorite entertainment such as music, podcasts, or even audio books.

The upper trims of the Compass, the Latitude, Limited, and Trailhawk, have a newly available Luxury Seat Package that adds a power-adjustable driver’s seat, memory-position driver’s seat, and ventilated front seats. Higher trims also offer the premium Alpine sound system, so your entertainment sounds better than ever.

Drivers continue to be pleased with all of the things the Compass has done well for years, offering ample space and off-road capabilities. With the rear row engaged in the upright position, you’ll find that the generous 27.2 cubic-feet of cargo space has plenty of room for suitcases, backpacks, sports gear, and the every day essentials. When the rear row is folded and stowed, the cargo space opens up to a capacious 59.8, so large adventuring gear or even furniture can be stowed in the Compass. If you’re seeking rough and tough adventures, the Trailhawk trim is ready for off-roading with traction management, the Jeep Active Drive system, an aggressive styling, and two tow hooks.

A Brief History of the Jeep Compass

The Compass was introduced to the market in 2007, positioned as a midsize SUV with a value-forward price point. Though the first Compass models didn’t offer much standard equipment or features, Jeep made sure to offer plenty of available packages and upgrades for the SUV. Jeep turned customer feedback on the first model into action when they tweaked the Compass for the 2008 model year to improve its overall engineering and design a quieter cabin.

For the 2010 model year, Jeep completely redesigned the Compass for the North American Market. The SUV segment had grown significantly in popularity over the last several years, and Jeep seized the opportunity to earn more loyal Jeep enthusiasts. The 2010 Compass offered more premium quality materials, and Jeep begin to add smart-tech features like an USB port and music hard drive storage to the vehicle. The Compass evolved into a true off-road performer in 2011 with the addition of an available off-road package that included specialized tires and other rugged options.

Over the next several years, Jeep continued to refine the Compass in response to drivers’ feedback, and changes were primarily seen in the technology and interior equipment offerings. A few of the notable additions included a color touchscreen, a backup camera, and a more integrated infotainment system.

The latest generation of the Jeep Compass was released for the 2017 model year, bringing a sleek, athletic exterior and a feature-loaded interior to the SUV. This new generation has impressed auto-enthusiasts and everyday drivers alike, further cementing the Compass’ popularity in the compact SUV segment.
