There’s an abundance of midsize SUVs on the market today, with some made for commuting and others built for adventure. When Jeep entered the midsize SUV class, they introduced a vehicle that excels in both fields. The Grand Cherokee accommodates everyday driving and road trips with a high-quality cabin and smooth ride, while it also packs all the power and performance that Jeep is loved for. An abundance of entertainment options and high safety ratings make it an ideal family vehicle, and its off-roading capabilities ensure that no destination is off limits.
If you want to get behind the wheel of the Grand Cherokee, come check it out at our dealership. Here at Walt Massey CDJR, you can explore this versatile SUV from bumper to bumper, speak with us about all its features, and take it out for a test run.
The 2020 Grand Cherokee features the latest updates that Jeep has made to the SUV’s fourth generation. In the previous year model, Jeep made rear cross traffic alert and blind spot monitoring standard safety features. In 2018, the infotainment system gained Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ as standard tech. Jeep also added the off-roading Trackhawk trim to the Grand Cherokee lineup that year.
Performance is always a priority with Jeep, and the Grand Cherokee is no exception. On the road, it handles with ease and it smooths out bumps without shaking up the cabin. While it behaves reliably on city streets and highways, the Grand Cherokee is truly in its element when you take it off-road. You can enhance its terrain-tackling capabilities with a range of available features like a limited-slip differential, a Quadra-Lift Air suspension system, hill ascent and descent control, and multiple four-wheel drive arrangements.
Jeep offers four engine options for the 2020 Grand Cherokee. The standard issue is a 295-horsepower V6, while three hearty V8 engines are also available. The most muscular of these is the same 707-horsepower beast that Dodge builds into their Charger Hellcat. Any option works well with the smooth-shifting eight-speed automatic transmission. The Grand Cherokee can also be equipped to tow up to 7,200 pounds.
Even with all its strength, the Grand Cherokee is a comfortable everyday SUV that’s ideal for family trips. The two rows can easily seat five passengers with plenty of elbowroom and legroom, and the back row has two sets of LATCH connections for car seats. The SUV’s cavernous interior space extends to the storage area, and you’ll find more than 36 cubic feet available behind the rear seats. If you need more cargo space, you can fold the rear seats for up to 68.3 cubic feet.
Even the base trim is well-stocked with upscale materials and supportive seating, and you can enhance each ride with available upgrades like heated seats, a ventilated front row, a heated steering wheel, a sunroof, leather upholstery, and more.
Critics have touted the Grand Cherokee’s infotainment system as particularly user-friendly, and it comes standard with Bluetooth®*, smartphone integration, and USB ports. Available tech features include navigation, Alpine premium sound, HD Radio, a rear-seat entertainment system, and a household-style power plug. the Grand Cherokee’s available safety systems include automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, and lane departure warning. In addition to its reassuring safety technology, the SUV earned high scores in its crash tests.
The Grand Cherokee was the first Jeep vehicle released with Chrysler at the helm, and it made its debut with a spectacular display. In 1992, the president of Chrysler invited Detroit’s mayor to ride in their new model on the way to the North American International Auto Show. The two rode through the Motor City with a police escort to the Cobo Hall convention center. Once they arrived, the Grand Cherokee handily climbed up the convention center steps and entered through a pane of tempered glass. Once the stunt was over, the surrounding automotive press snapped photos to document Jeep’s shattering entry into the midsize SUV market.
The Grand Cherokee was released in 1993 to compete head-to-head with the Ford Explorer and other midsize SUVs. The original model debuted with a spacious cabin, modern instrumentation, and the impressive performance that drivers expect from Jeep. The second generation arrived in 1999 with a lighter body and greater fuel efficiency. Upgrades in its third generation included a potent new V6 engine and more family-friendly features like a rear-seat DVD player. The Grand Cherokee entered its fourth generation in 2011, sporting modern curves while retaining the iconic Jeep grille. It also combines the latest in Jeep’s lauded engineering while providing an unprecedented level of comfort and convenience with contemporary technology.
